Geotechnics

The development of our capabilities of gathering of geotechnical basic data enables our projects to achieve success and profitability. A correct understanding of the geotechnical and hydrological conditions supports the engineering designer in making the optimal choice of the foundation system as well as in estimating the extents of the temporary constructions. Moreover, this reduces the risk of late design changes or production stops during the building stage. We work throughout all stages, from the early surveys and investigations to production support and advice during construction.

Geotechnical surveys and environmental taking of specimens

We are experienced in geotechnical surveys encompassing many different situations and constructions. Our staff has conducted surveys on undeveloped soil, urban environments and from water. In connection with geotechnical surveys we often carry out environmental taking of specimens for analysis of contaminated sites, for instance. BTB cooperates with several survey companies and this is why we can act rapidly.

BoussinesqRisk assessments

We are experienced in conducting risk assessments which, in projects, support the client in his decision making, as well as serve as a base for further planning and design by ourselves and others. We recommend that a risk assessment is performed in order to insure a correct selection of surveys and to provide basic data for the future process of choosing the foundation system. This risk analysis focuses on geotechnical risks such as problems related to groundwater, earth movements, other environmental influences etc.

Calculations

We base our design process on previous experience in order to ensure a sustainable product and secure production. Besides modern purchased software we use in our calculations even software developed within our company. Our work comprises both simple and complex constructions. Our aim, as far as is possible, is to use the soil as a part of the load-bearing construction solution, reducing in this way the cost of traditional materials such as steel and concrete.

CADCAD

The results from geotechnical surveys and design are most often delivered as drawings. According to Swedish practice we present the results of geotechnical surveys using the software GeoSuite in AutoCAD.

Where geotechnical design is concerned we prefer 3D software since this provides a better understanding of the geotechnical conditions, excavations as well as interfaces with the surroundings and existing structures nearby. We are convinced that the somewhat increased amount of work related to 3D design has payback value for the project as a whole, leading to clear presentations and facilitating communication.
